Style&Design: on the mastery of harmonious spatial composition

What does good taste in interior design have to do with practicality? How does listening to a client, while ultimately working in the best interest of the space, bring harmony to the final result?

Style & Design specialises in bespoke built-in furniture creation and interior design, offering precise and creative solutions for any space.

In this interview, Estera Roke, Designer and Project Manager, shares insights on how to transform any space, whether small or large, into a perfectly balanced environment, with the help of a thoughtful approach and precision in built-in furniture design.

Why is precision such an important aspect of your work?

Precision is one of the main foundations when evaluating the quality of our work. When working with custom commissions, both in furniture production and interior design, every millimetre and every detail matters. Accurate measurements, carefully developed drawings, and well-considered technical solutions ensure that the final result not only visually corresponds to the original idea but also functions perfectly within the specific space.

I often say that good design is not only about beauty, it is also about functionality and the harmony it creates in the space. Precision helps achieve this balance. It gives confidence both to us and to the client that the concept will be realised exactly as planned, and that the result will be both aesthetically appealing and practical for everyday use.

What other values lie at the core of a successful project?

At the core of a successful project is a professional and knowledgeable team.
We place great emphasis on close collaboration with our clients. It is important to listen, to understand their lifestyle, needs, and aesthetic vision. This makes each project truly individual, as it is only then possible to create a space and furniture that fully correspond to the specific person and their daily life.

Another essential aspect is quality and responsibility towards every detail. At Style&Design we pay great attention not only to the design concept, but also to the choice of materials and the precision of manufacturing. Custom-made furniture is not merely an interior element; it is a long-term investment in the quality and comfort of the space.

Finally, at the core of our professional values lies trust. When mutual understanding and a shared vision of the result emerge between the client, the designer, and the production team, the project develops smoothly and harmoniously.

What qualities in your clients inspire you most when working on a project?

My experience shows that the most successful projects arise when the client is not only a customer but also a co-creator, someone who is genuinely interested in the process and who works together with us to shape the story of their space.

How do you find a balance between what the client wants and what is most suitable for the space?

In this field, it is essential to be able to listen to the client, and at the same time clearly outline and justify your professional vision if it differs from theirs. Quite often, clients find interior design or furniture examples on the internet, but their own space does not correspond to that particular design.

Through proper communication with the client, it is always possible to find a balance beent, between their wishes and the actual possibilitween possibilities of the space, ties allowing us to offer a solution that is not only beautiful but also practical for everyday life.

In the Style&Design approach, the goal is not to simply realise an idea but to help it develop into the best possible version of itself. Often this means proposing alternative solutions, explaining the choice of materials or proportions, and working together with the client to find a compromise that preserves their vision while allowing the space to function harmoniously.

What are the main differences between working on a smaller space and a larger one?

When working with spaces of different sizes, both the design approach and priorities differ.

In smaller spaces, the main focus is on functionality, thoughtful planning, and intelligent storage solutions. Every centimetre matters, which is why the advantages of custom-made furniture are especially significant, as it allows the available space to be used as efficiently as possible while maintaining an aesthetic and light interior atmosphere.

In larger spaces, on the other hand, the challenge is often to create balance and a sense of warmth. In a spacious environment, it is important to manage proportions, zoning, and visual rhythm so that the space does not appear empty or disjointed. This requires careful consideration of furniture placement, material combinations, and lighting.

From experience, I can say that both smaller and larger spaces have their own challenges. In smaller spaces, there is particular satisfaction in finding precise, thoughtful, and creative solutions, while in larger ones, there are greater opportunities to create a more expressive interior concept, highlight design elements, and build a harmonibuild harmonious spatial composition.

How can a small space be made as functional as possible?

For a small space to be truly functional, careful planning and individually tailored solutions are esplanning essential. Here, every detail matters, so it is importsential. important to make the most efficient use of the available ant area, both horizontally and vertically.
One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through custom-made furniture that is precisely adapted to the specific space.

This allows the use of niches, wall height, and othThis other architectural elements that often remain unused er when standard furniture is chosen. Thoughtful planwhen planning of storage systems is also important so that ning the space maintains order and visual lightness.

I always aim to find functionality in good taste, so that even a small space can be not only practical but also visually spacious, harmonious, and combut comfortable for everyday living.

What piece of furniture would you recommend starting with when designing ommend an interior?

When designing an interior, I usually recommend starting with the main piece of furniture that defines the function and character of the space. In a living room, this is often the sofa, in the kitchen it is the built-in unit, and in the bedroom it is the bed itself. These elements become the central point around which the rest of the interior naturally develops.

Once the main element is chosen, it becomes easier to determine the stylistic comes direction of the space, the choice of materials, the colour palette, and the proportions. This approach helps create a coherent and well-considered interior concept in which every subsequent piece of furniture and detail organically complements the overall design.

What demonstrates good taste in an interior?

I am a supporter of minimalism, and to me, good taste in an interior reveals itself through balance. It is not connected solely to a specific style or current trends, but rather to the ability to create a harmonious, thoughtful, and personal space. A good interior is one in which materials, colours, proportions, and furniture work together to create a unified atmosphere.

Good taste is also expressed in the details, in quality materials, thoughtful furniture placement, and the ability not to overload a space. Sometimes it is precisely simplicity, balance, and functionality that create the most expressive result.

In my opinion, a good interior is always very personal. It reflects the person who lives in the space, their lifestyle, and their relationship with their surroundings.

It is this individuality, combined with high-quality execution, that creates a sense of true elegance and good taste.
